Somewhere Between

Teens today have a completely different view of what it means to be multicultural and ethnically diverse than their parents a few short decades before them. Documentary filmmaker, Linda Goldstein Knowlton takes us deep into that concept and and specifically highlights the experience of what it is like to grow up as an adopted Chinese-American girl in the United States. In her film, Somewhere Between, Knowlton spends three years following four teenage adoptees in very different households. Listening to these girls’ stories spotlights their struggle with conflicting cultures and personal identities. This feature underscores our new adaptive experience as a hybrid society and what it means to exist in new cultures while trying to maintain your own cultural identity.
